In 2002 our club purchased land in Lisnamult which today has become home to Roscommon Gaels Club. Over the intervening years the club developed the grounds to include a sand based all-weather pitch, practise pitch and floodlights. In 2019, we opened new dressing rooms which are SEAI certified and erected a ball wall. Last year, with generous support from Kevin Connolly we opened the Paddy Connolly stand. Over the last 22 years each of these projects have moved our club forward. However, our membership has grown significantly in recent times and we now have over 170 boys and girls playing football and hurling from our Academy to U10. To cater for this growing demand, we need to develop our playing surfaces, gym facilities and general amenities in Lisnamult. Sport is more important than ever for young people’s health, and well-being and the community in general. This is why launching our most ambitious sponsorship/donor packages in the club’s history.

Planning for Our Future

The Executive Committee in Roscommon Gaels commissioned an external agency, Cummins & Voortman who specialise in Architecture & Urban Design projects (including Sports Infrastructural design). To provide our club with a strategic view using our existing facilities and the land we currently rent. This is a visual of their proposed design, which includes an astro training surface to be located on our existing training pitch which is parallel to our car park. There is a proposal to lay two pitches behind our dressing rooms with a gym, a multi-functional team room including catering facilities and a balcony overlooking our main pitch. This is subject to these lands becoming available to purchase. This is an ambitious strategy for our club, but we have to progress as our existing facilities are not fit-for-purpose for our growing membership. Our vision, will require fundraising and continued prudent financial Management. More importantly, it will require support, generosity and commitment from our club members, our diaspora and our wider community, to make this vision a reality.

** As we currently rent our back pitches we need to source new playing area’s. Should the appropriate land come available to buy, this may alter the time line of these projects.

Why is Roscommon Gaels Club launching this fundraiser?

Our Club is a volunteer led organisation with 1009 members. We field 36 teams from our Academy to Senior grades in Football, Hurling, LGFA, Camogie and our special All-Stars Team. We currently own 1.5 pitches in our home grounds in Lisnamult, which cater for our 621 youth players. We rent adjacent lands, but the playing surface cannot cope with poor weather conditions and are not equipped to host games from U18 upwards. Aside from the lack of adequate playing surfaces our gym is too small for the demands of modern sport for our players & indeed our wider membership. Our current facilities are under resourced but we are determined to try and ensure all players at all age grades, both male & female stay involved and that their needs are served in our club.

Is Roscommon Gaels approved as a sports body with Revenue?

Yes. The projects we are undertaking have also been approved by the Department of Media, Tourism, Arts Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht. These approvals allow the Club to benefit from tax relief on the qualifying donations made by individual donors. Under the scheme all donations will be strictly used to finance the development. Donors will be kept informed at all stages.

What grants are available from Government/EU funding?

Roscommon Gaels can apply for Sports Capital Grants & public funding grants that become available through local authorities or government agencies. Note; we do not qualify for CLÁR funding as we are not located in a rural area.

Where do the monies raised by Roscommon Gaels club lotto and shop sales go?

The money raised from the lotto and other club fundraising income goes towards the sizeable operational costs of our large club e.g. grounds & pitch maintenance, sport equipment, one off team events, energy costs, etc…

What options are available for me to donate to the Roscommon Gaels Club Development Fundraiser?
