U14 Camogie The Camogie Championship for the Roscommon Gaels U14 team this year is nearing an end. The girls had a great start to the competition with a decisive win against Tulsk. They were defeated in a gruelling match against Domnics where the team showed great grit and determination. The referee commenting that it was the finest display of camogie at that age group she had seen for some time. The next match against Pearses took place in Lisnamult and unfortunately on the night the girls were defeated by one point, always a hard defeat. The next match was against Oran and the team played a free flowing game demonstrating all their skills. Although this was a great match the girls were defeated. . The team is now through to a C final on April 28th when they meet Tulsk again. Training will continue on Tuesday’s and Saturdays in preparation for this final and we wish the girls the best of luck in this final. Playing into a hill in the 2nd half Eire Og/Glaveys powered on with some quick fire goals - 2 penalties - which were dubious enough losing out by 7-13 to 1-7. No shame in the scoreline. Football U14 Div 1 Football Roscommon Gaels 2-12 St Dominics 3-09 What a game of football on a beauitful Sunday morning in Tremane. This game had everything. Skill, honesty & our lads gave everything. The 1st half was probably the best football we have played. Everything we done worked a treat. Kick passes, scores, overlappying with precision. John McGuinness got our goal but Eoghan Carty held his own at centre back & was outstanding in this first period. In fact everyone played really well But the 2nd half we knew St Dominics would come back and they did as good teams do. Andrew Oates made vital saves and his kick outs were spot on. Ciaran, Jack and Rory drove the team on. they got a late goal but Rory got a late point to level it. It would have been cruel to have lost this but we will meet again in the later stages i'm sure of it. Well done lads. U14 Football Div 1 Roscommon Gaels 0-10 Clan Na Gael 2-04 On a bright sunday morning ideal for football our lads started brightly playing into a stiff wind. Exchanges were tight in the first half. We had a job on our hands with their big midfielder - conor Sheehan but Ciaran & Rory stood firm in the middle of the field. Everthing that was thrown in on top of michael Gilhooley at full back - Michael won it hands down. He was outstanding in the first half along with Jack Donnelly who continues to impress and his physical athleticm at No 6 was a job to behold. We went in at half time 4 points to 2 up. Everything went well for us. Quick balll into john Mcguinness worked well but we changed a bit in the 2nd Half. Andrew oates came out of goal & placed in full forward. Worked for a while but we changed it later on. They got 2 goals within the space of 2 mins which put them 4 up but points from john mcguinness and rory carthy bring the teams level with a few mins left. Exchanges were frantic and some big hits went in. Great character building for these lads. Game finished level. We are sure to meet them again Next sunday we play St Dominic's in Tremane at 11am.
