Our club is embarking on two fundraisers to assist charities who provide vital services in our community.
The first one on being co-ordinated by St. Faithleachs GAA on behalf of all GAA clubs in Co. Roscommon for RSG and Roscommon Gaels is participating in this. RSG is County Roscommon Disability Support Group based in Derrane. This organisation is committed to improving the quality of life and the standards of services to all people with disabilities, older people, children, families and provision of carers in peoples homes. We are encouraging all our members, in particular families, coaches and underage players to do their exercise and add their steps/kms to complete a 40,000km in a ‘Walk Around the World’ in conjunction with other GAA Clubs in Co. Roscommon and to donate to the go fund me page. Mary Tarpey, Health & Wellbeing is coordinating this on behalf of Roscommon Gaels. See previous posts for further Terms and Conditions on how to sign up to log you kilometers or contact Mary on [email protected] Click here to donate: https://www.gofundme.com/f/our-communities-our-clubs-our-carers

Dan Donoher was diagnosed on the 6th December with a rare genetic neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 and Scoliosis.
Life expectancy of an SMA type 1 child is 18-24 months. However, a drug only available in the USA can help. The cost of the treatment is $2.1 million. Dan has just turned one and the widow for treatment is now just 12 months. A fundraising campaign has been launched and donations can be made by visiting: https://ie.gofundme.com/f/1x3knoyjlc #doitforDan Due to the ongoing Covid 19 situation and for Health and Safety reasons, Roscommon Gaels GAA club have come to the decision to defer the scheduled date of the Win A Subaru draw on May 3 rd to Saturday, August 29 th . It is hoped that by this time the normality that we used to know will have resumed by then. We are living in a very different environment at the moment.
The Club wish for the priority to be, that its members remain safe and assist with the country in flattening the curve and stop the spread of Covid 19. As May 3 rd was the original date scheduled for the Draw to take place, due to the current Government Guidelines, along with the current directive from the GAA, no Club events are permitted to take place up to April 12th. Following this date we must await guidance from the Government on further instructions. We are suspending the sale of tickets off line, however, on-line tickets will remain on sale on www.winasubaru.ie. We will continue to market Win A Subaru online for the coming months. All scheduled days for selling tickets have now been cancelled. We would like to remind the public that our club won this new car in a competition run by TG4 Spórt & Subaru Ireland. One of the conditions of the competition was that the winner (Roscommon Gaels GAA Club) hold a raffle for the car and the money raised would go to the club. All proceeds will go to buy equipment for our special All-Stars Team – https://www.facebook.com/roscommon.gaels/videos/648471262583768/ and to develop our car park facilities to make it safe for everyone. Since the beginning of the campaign on February 5 th 2,498 tickets have been sold locally, nationally and even in countries as far wide as the USA, Australia and UAE across the three different purchasing packages that are available, i.e. 1 for €20, 3 for €50 and 7 for €100. This fundraiser is also being monitored by Mr. David Gleeson, RBK Accountants, Roscommon. We are extremely grateful to all those who have kindly supported this campaign to date. Thank you again for your support, and we look forward to re-igniting Win A Subaru in the near future. Stay safe everyone. O. Fleming P.R.O. Roscommon Gaels GAA Club The GAA MacNamee Awards are held annually to honour excellence in the area of communications, public relations and journalism, specifically related to the activities of the Association. These Awards are named after the late Pádraig MacNamee, former President of the GAA, Chairman of the GAA Commission (1969-1971) and member of RTÉ authority.
Roscommon Gaels has won a prestigious MacNamee award for its All-Stars initiative, which caters for children with special needs. The club won the "Best New Media" award for the clever use of social media and digital campaigns which raised awareness of the All Stars and helped with the success winning the TG4/Subaru competition. 2019 Best New Media – Roscommon Gaels All-stars Any club that provides the kinds of services that Roscommon Gaels does through its All-Stars initiative deserves special recognition. However the Gaels’ clever use of social media and digital campaigns to raise awareness of their work and to ultimately fund it, through winning the TG4 / Subaru competition, deserves to be recognised through the McNamee Best New Media Award. Their campaign involved two separate digital initiatives - creating an excellent video describing the Roscommon Gaels All-Stars and then utilising social media to generate awareness and win votes for their competition entry. A number of free courses / training options have been identified which may be of interest during the COVID-19 crisis as follows:

We advised you that, until March 29th, games and training were suspended, club gyms were to close, and Player Injury Fund cover was suspended. We subsequently instructed that club bars should also close for the period. Club Operations Please be advised that, in line with recent government announcements, these measures and closures are now extended to Sunday April 19 inclusive, at which stage arrangements will be reviewed. In addition, we are now instructing GAA Clubs to close their facilities completely. This is to include the use of all pitches and property for recreational purposes, including walking, casual games or gatherings. Where it is not possible to restrict access please erect signage to the effect that all GAA facilities are closed and all activity suspended. In order to facilitate an orderly resumption of activities when circumstances permit, Clubs are encouraged to proceed as normal with their membership registration process where practical. Clubs of course should be mindful of the possible changed financial circumstances of members. Similarly, club lottos may proceed if they are run on an online basis and do not involve wholesale engagement with the public. Clubs are also advised to refrain from undertaking new capital projects while support funding for this type of work is suspended. Community Support As a national / international organisation, we have a part to play in emphasising the need to practice social distancing, as outlined by the authorities. It is imperative that we exercise extreme caution keeping two metres between people when taking physical exercise while encouraging people to consider using off-peak times when they are less likely to meet others. Attached is the latest messaging from the HSE covering guidelines around volunteering which we advise our clubs to consider as they involve themselves in community-based volunteer efforts. Individual volunteers are asked to register with Volunteer Ireland (26 Counties) and Volunteer Now (Six Counties). We would like to thank everyone who has helped the GAA adhere to government guidelines up to this point. We would also like to assure you that we, and the wider GAA team across our counties and provinces, are working hard to ensure that we are in the best possible position to return to our games when that time comes. In the meantime, please stay safe, look out for one another and continue to adhere to the instructions of the Government and the Health Authorities at this most challenging time. Go raibh maith agaibh, Tomás Ó Riain Seán Ó hÓráin Ard Stiúrthóir Uachtarán
